Stem cell research breakthrough

Stem cells have been a subject of much research and debate over the years. We became convinced fairly early on in Joe’s treatment that stem cells were likely the only way for the neurons damaged during his hemorrhagic stroke to be regenerated. Stem cell research has faced challenges, both technical and also ethical in nature, as the cells can be taken from aborted fetuses. A breakthrough was reported today though. Researchers have found a way to reprogram mature animal cells to get them to return to what is called a pluripotent state, where they can grow into whatever type of cell is needed.

This research has not yet been replicated on human cells but researchers are hopeful that this next step could be accomplished within the next year. For the full article click here.
